Explain how you developed your design for your
book carving.
My design was developed by the questionable theme and how faeries and the air around is still a mystery to most and always has been.
How important was it to have a clear plan before
starting?
You had to have a clear plan because once you started carving there really was no going back you couldn't start over again, because you really didn't have much time.
What were the challenges you faced when working on this
project?
How deep you needed to carve was very challenging because if you went to deep or shallow then the carving might look very unproportional.
Explain how you overcame them.
I made sure that I counted out the pages I needed and had the correct depth that was necessary because I really couldn't afford to start over.
Discuss your design. My design was to have a faerie in a hidden cave with a secret water fall and she was gaining power from and connecting with nature through branches of light that floated around the cave.
Did you take any risks? How and why?
I took a risk by my design because the way that I made my project cut off some of my images and hurt the painting I think.
Describe how you felt
about the overall project and if you felt it was successful.
With my overall design I kind of feel like I could have done more with the book, that I could have utilized my time better and created a more solid design and painting. But it doesn't look that bad so I guess it was okay.

Mixed Media
1.
How did you show amusement and variety in your piece? Explain your
choice of subject matter and how you created a unified piece of art.
I showed amusement by showing a dog having a dream about a large thanksgiving meal and wanting to steal the turkey. And I was able to show variety by adding multiple colors and different shaped pictures throughout my dogs dream.
2. Describe your experience with using mixed media. What mixed media did you use for your piece?
Using mixed media was much more challenging then I had first anticipated, the placement of all the pieces and what pieces that should have been used in each design. I used magazine clippings, clip art, pictures, pencil, and colored pencil for my mixed media.
3. What role did our lessons on visual journal play in the success of your piece? Explain.
For our lessons in visual journal they helped me with gaining the knowledge of what materials were open to me and which ones looked more well suited with each other.
4. Discuss any challenges you experienced and how you overcame obstacles.
My biggest challenge was probably the gel medium and tissue paper because the color would smear and it could peal off when it dried. I overcame this by blending the colors of the tissue paper that best went together, and being more effective with the gel amount that I used.
